Section 2 - The original upstairs

Updated: Sep 29
As I have previous said I am splitting the house into sections for ease of thought. Section 2 is the original upstairs. This is the 2 double bedrooms and the boxroom with the landing in the middle. At the moment this will turn into the master room, spare room and upstairs bathroom. The rooms themselves have relatively low ceilings that are slightly gabled at either side, because of the gabling and the low ceilings this means that the windows are at floor level.
The first four pictures are the master bedroom, the following picture is from the spare bedroom onto the landing, the next picture is the spare room and the final two pictures are the box room with the stairs box.
There are a few problems with the upstairs, the first is that the ceilings are only 2.2 meters high which is quite short and they are slightly gabled already. I have so much storage though out the property then the attic becomes quite a waste of space as it is unlikely I will ever use it. Therefore I have decided to remove the panel ceiling (something I was always going to do but I am not going to replace them) and leave the gables exposed which should then add the height back to the room, this would also allow skylights to add additional light to the bedroom which I think they need.
The interior walls of the upstairs are just panelled walls so I will also take them down and replace them with stud walls which does allow me to change the entire upstairs floor plan if I desire. The other thing I would like to do is the future proof the house with the plan for a potential extension in the future, in order to do this then the landing needs to be on the other side of the upstairs so as the extension can go out over the original front door and not over the kitchen which is where the landing currently leads. So at the moment the plan is not decided, it would be easier if I switched the stairs to be against the external wall and not against the kitchen wall however that comes with issues of its own.
The floor for this levels bows quite considerably in the spare room, however still feels mostly solid, therefore it is likely that they were not put in straight in the first place, however I do want to lift all the floorboards and check that the beams are still sound, reinforce them where necessary and level them out to make flat floors.

The original plans have the spare room as the bigger of the two bedrooms that will remain. However the rotation of the staircase to under the spare will reduce the size of the spare room and make it a little bit of a weirder shape.

The update of the plan is largely similar however does take into account the change in staircase and the corridor allows for the future extension out behind the bathroom. The master bedroom also has a doorway which goes into the library in part of section 4 of the house. I am hoping adding the skylights into the bedrooms it will also increase the light to the upstairs because the upstairs window are very small currently.
Again this is in no way finished and I may yet change the side of the stairway in order to increase the feel of the space upstairs. But for a first draft I am pretty happy.
