Splitting the house down

As I have previously mentioned the original house was built with the two stories and later on the kitchen and bathroom were added with the attached stores and barn. Therefore, when considering the house it can be broken up into essentially 4 sections where the exterior walls of these 4 sections are fixed and then there is some flexibility with the interior walls within these sections.

Section 1 is the original downstairs. This is the living room, dinning room, front hallway and stairs. It is encased in a stone wall that is approximately a meter wide. There is a chimney at either end of this original section and then in the centre of each of the walls between the chimneys are the only two doors which go out of the original lower floor of the house, the front door and the door to the kitchen.

Section 2 is the original upstairs. This is the 2 double bedrooms and the boxroom with the landing in the middle. At the moment this will turn into the master room, spare room and upstairs bathroom. The rooms themselves have relatively low ceilings that are slightly gabled at either side, because of the gabling and the low ceilings this means that the windows are at floor level.

Section 3 is the extended downstairs strip. This currently has the kitchen, bathroom and then the barn which is not accessible by the inside and instead has 2 exterior doors. This is the only section of the house which currently has plumbing. The exterior walls of this are narrower than the original house but still fairly thick. At the moment the barns are completely unfinished where you can still see daylight between the roof and the walls, which is something that needs to be addressed. There is also a small chimney above this extension for the old range stove which is the backup water heater.

Section 4 is the old feed store. This is a two story end of house which is built after the second chimney. At the moment this is where there is some damage from the second chimney and where it has leaked there is some water damage. Both rooms are only accessible from the outside, with an outside set of steps going to the top floor which are slightly dangerous right now sadly so will need to be expanded and given a railing or removed completely and given an interior solution.

So that is effectively the 4 sections which I am going to look at whilst remodelling the house because that is where the exterior walls kind of make sense to consider as their width makes them unmoveable.
