The Living room

Right now my living room and dinning room are split with a hall and stairway between the two. In old houses it was designed to keep the warmth in the rooms however as I update the central heating and renovate small rooms should no longer be a requirement so I am thinking of expanding the inside.

There are two problems that I can see with this. First I need to establish if the two interior walls separating the rooms are load bearing walls. I'm 90% sure they aren't however I need to spend a little more time in the house in order to establish that for sure. The second issue is that at the moment the stairs are in the middle of the two spaces, which means that they would have to move in order to build the style space I would like.

The staircase plan, right now the plan is to rotate the stairway from the center of the house to then be against the wall between the kitchen and main room. However then the stairs would open in the master room and I would have to entirely redesign the top floor of the house structure. If I make the stairway start in the opposite direction then the stairs would open in the same place, however then you would have to walk through the living area to get to the bottom of the stairs, which would disrupt the flow of the room. So the only other thing I could do is a spiral staircase, but that feels like a recipe for disaster. Anyway, the one thing I have always wanted is a wine store under my staircase (another reason why a spiral staircase might be problematic). So that is an entirely unresolved issue that I am still working on.

Ignoring the issue of the staircase and assuming I can take down my interior walls, that leaves me with a long space. There will be a fire place at either end of the room and that is currently an open fireplace but I'm planning on making them safer and making them stoves. Then there will be a door on either side of the width of the room one to the kitchen and one to the outside (for now).

So that is the basic plan, which would then have the living room at one end and dinning room at the other end. The plan for the dinning room is a very simple wooden table and chairs with a cabinet opposite the windows which will contain all of the crochery for the dinning room. These pictures are my inspiration for what my dinning room with any luck will look like.

Then the plan for the sitting room is a fairly relaxed space centred around the fireplace. At the moment I have leather furniture which I like, but I also would love a corner sofa to help separate the space. So now I am debating what I already own versus what style I think I would like. If you look below you can see the style I am going for is simple, with wood and simple style.
